Lead Me to the Rock
Are you carrying a heavy load and feeling overwhelmed? Are the shifting tides of your circumstances making your weary heart feel faint and you feel like you have nowhere to escape? Read today’s devotion for some words of encouragement.
With everything currently going on in this world, many people have to adjust to the new normal and it's more than some can bear. Perhaps you are currently in a season of your life where you are trying to adjust to a shift or change in relationships. It could be from a divorce, separation, or breakup and the load you’re currently carrying is heavy and you feel lonely without support. Maybe you're in a new location, and left some friends and family back home, but the thought of meeting new people and starting over to build close knit relationships overwhelms you or feels impossible. Maybe you’ve taken on a new project at work. Your boss is trusting you with more responsibilities and it seemed great at first, but now you’re hit with imposter syndrome and all your insecurities are starting to get the best of you and you don’t know if you’re going to be able to meet your boss’s standards. Perhaps you and your family just experienced a great loss from a tragedy or a loss of employment. You’re feeling the heavy weight and burden of making sure everyone else around you is okay, but you are about to crumble under the pressure.
We all get overwhelmed for various reasons and it hits some of us harder than others, but the bible tells us what we can do when our heart feels faint and wants to give up.
“From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I." Psalm 61:2
No matter where we are or what season we are currently in, when we are in Christ Jesus, who is our steady, immovable rock, we can go to God confidently and with expectation.
We can know that when we call out to Him, He will hear us and responds to our distress so that our hearts can be at rest.
When we look to Him alone for safety to share the anguish of our soul, our thoughts, emotions, even our will and desires, and trust Him with it, we are reminded that He is the true supreme source that is higher and bigger than what this world could ever offer us.
In Christ, who is our solid Rock, we can have peace even in moments of chaos. We can go to Him for refuge, for strength, and security. He is more than willing to give us wisdom and guidance to help us get through whatever it is that is troubling our hearts. We just have to open our mouth and ask and be honest in our prayer time with Him.
With His lovingkindness, He will show us the root of our anxiety and weary hearts. He will point out whether it's just a matter of properly prioritizing, if we are getting caught up in people pleasing or putting idols before Him. He will reveal if we have vain imaginations that need to be cast down and demolished, or if we are not setting the proper boundaries that can lead to the feelings of being overwhelmed.
We all live in a fallen world where we will just face uncontrolled circumstances and added responsibilities. But even with all of the different variables in place, we must lean in and draw nearer to our heavenly Father. We must go to the throne of grace and seek him for nourishment so that we won’t remain weak or faint.
He is higher than our problems, to do lists, changing seasons, broken relationships, and circumstances. When everything happening around us is unpredictable, unstable, and sporadic, He remains constant, steady, immovable and a safe haven.
What is your current outlet when you’re feeling overwhelmed with your circumstance? How can God use the season that you're in to further shape you and bring glory to His name?
